Welcome to the first session.

You will be completing the RELAX online training sessions. This training has been successfully used to reduce anxiety and worry in people with clinical anxiety, as well as those with high levels of worry and rumination (mulling over negative events from the past). We have discovered that the best way to help people develop more positive thinking habits is for them to listen to short descriptions of situations (scenarios) and try to imagine themselves in positive outcomes for those situations.

The main part of the training involves listening to scenarios about situations that come up in daily life and then vividly imagining yourself in them. This means creating an image of the scenario, seeing the situation unfold in your mind’s eye and hearing what is happening in the image in your mind’s ear. We would like you to make your images as clear as possible. In today’s session, you will start by practicing how to create vivid (clear) mental images. So, this session will take a little longer to complete than the rest of the sessions, but it should only be half an hour.

You will hear scenarios describing everyday situations. Please listen carefully to these scenarios and imagine yourself in these situations as vividly (clearly) as you can. So, imagine that you are experiencing the situation described at that moment and think about what you can see, hear and feel. Even if you have not experienced a situation like this before, please imagine it is happening to you.

Since you will be listening to the scenarios, it is important to do your sessions in a quiet environment, preferably using headphones. On the next page, you will first be asked to check that your sound works. Following this, you will see a checklist to help you make sure you are in the right kind of environment to do your sessions.

We have built in some short breaks in the middle of the sessions. If you wish to exit the session before it is finished, you will need to come back and complete it before you are able to move on to the next session.

Please use the ‘Contact Us’ form if you have any questions, but please note that this will take you out of your session.

Thank you very much for taking part.
